According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the MIIT and the Ministry of Finance will continue to promote the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) industry in 2013 through special funds, and have identified six key development areas, including smart logistics and smart transportation. Against the backdrop of the central government's development of smart cities, this move will bring funding to IoT companies and drive a new round of industrial development.

Recently, the central government has emphasized stable growth, but has clearly stated that it will not repeat the old path of large-scale stimulus; therefore, smart cities with relatively long physical chains are good investment areas.

Because smart cities can promote stable growth and employment, the government has a strong motivation to build and implement them. Currently, China's logistics industry is still lagging behind, with bottlenecks such as the small scale of third-party logistics services and insufficient logistics infrastructure capacity resulting in China's logistics costs being far higher than those in the United States. With the earlier launch of Alibaba Group's "Cainiao," the wave of smart logistics has already begun.

China is both a populous country and faces the pressure of an aging population. Projected data indicates that China will enter a state of net population decline in 2019, and labor-intensive industries such as the logistics industry face transformation. It is estimated that the scale of the IoT industry will exceed 500 billion yuan in 2015 and will reach the trillion-yuan scale in a relatively short time thereafter.
